The United States is the only nation I know of that counts Hispanics as a seperate race. It's really weird to me being Hispanic myself. But anyways, I was wondering if it bother a lot of White Americans to see White Latinos from places like Cuba, Argentina, Spain and Chile? Sometime I think it does because some argue with me claiming that they're not white people and that just because some have blonde hair and blue eyes that it still doesnt make them white! No joke, they argue like this! So I sometimes get the idea that Americans WANT to think of Hispanics as brown people in order for everything to make sense to them. Is this true? Does it bother Anglo Americans to think that there are white people who love Salsa music and act "ethnic"? Please lets discuss this, because it is a serious subject. ...

There are many different kinds of Latin dances. Latin American dance and music are very physical and emotional. Latin American music has had a large influence on dance form today. It was the mariachi bands of Mexico that popularized the fast rhythms and movements of the Hispanic dances. At the same time Cuba embraced similar musical and dance styles. Traditional Hispanic dance has been blended with new modern dances to create new dance crazes. Latin dances are well known for their sultry styles and hip movement. It was hard at first for these dances to become acceptable in the United States. Some Spanish dances are the rumba from cuba, the merengue from the Dominican republic, the tango from Buenos aires, and the salsa from carribbean. ...

Over the last few months, I've become a salsera and die-hard salsa fan. However, I am curious to know what the difference is. And I was informed that true Salsa actually started in Puerto Rico, not Cuba. Does anyone have any knowledge of these things that they'd like to share? ...

"La Salsa no Existe, Solo es un nombre comercial que se usa para agrupar Ritmos Cubanos." - Tito Puente (a puerto rican) The life long question that many ask. It shouldn't even have to be answered considering everyone knows that Salsa originated in Cuba with afro-Cuban roots. It is derived from an even older form of Cuban music called Son. Any Hispanic will tell you that salsa is from Cuba except a Puerto Rican born in the US. You can read it off of wikipedia "Salsa is essentially Cuban in origin". This is not to say there aren't any good PR salsa artists. There are plenty. Mark Anthony, Frankie ruiz, Victor Manuelle. And they have helped make Salsa very popular. But lets not forget its roots are a hybrid of Afro-Cuban beats. ...

Some says salsa came from Cuba. Some say it came from Puerto Rico. Could you identify or enumerate the countries that claim that salsa came from them? ...

There is always a debate where I come from, when it comes to salsa music.Puerto Ricans say that salsa started in Puerto Rico, and Cubans say that salsa started in Cuba. There is a very old saying that Cubans and Puerto Ricans are like the two feathers from the same eagle, which means that we are the same people, but different culture differences as far as music and other customs.I love salsa music, but I am confused because two different people,Puerto Ricans, and Cubans are giving two different stories of the musics origin. Can someone bring out the truth for once.I am Puerto Rican myself by the way. ...
