i have a toyota starlet gt turbo just changed the piston rings, and valve seals due to blue smoke..after replacing the worn out parts the smoke is still as thick as it was before..the mechanic said that the liner's were alittle bit loose so he thinks that could be the problem but from past experiences even with loose liners a fresh set of piston rings wouldn't spew out this much smoke..i'm leaning toward my turbo being busted..is there a way i can figure out if the turbo is the problem? something unique to the turbo itself that busted piston rings or valve seals wouldn't do? so far the turbo isn't noisy, when i had the overhaul no oil was present in the turbo manifold leading to the engine, there is oil loss...smoke sometimes present during startups but not always, puffs come out especially when i'm going in reverse or accelerating, smoke not visible if i'm going at a constant speed

I blew the turbo on my 1990 supra and i don't have the money to get a new turbo and i don't feel too trusting of cheap turbos on ebay so i was wondering if it is possible to bypass the turbo? i have already tried to put a filter on the intake manifold and leave the rest of the piping disconnected but some of the lines that come off intake before the turbo are used as ventilation lines for the camshaft housing. would it be possible to remove the turbo and try to bridge the oil and water lines so that everything is still a closed unit but without the turbo?

i recently got a 1995 Eagle Talon ESI, I put what I wanted in the car (Radio, Subs, Amps, etc....) and I fixed and scratches in the car, so it looks beautiful now. But, now Im moving to the engine department, Since my car is ESI, that means it doesnt have a turbo :-((((..... I know quite a bit about cars but i never installed a turbo on a car that wasnt turbo originally. I just want to know if anyone can tell me how I do this. Im thinkin that depending on the turbo i get, I may have to rebuild the engine head (new valves, gaskets etc...)
in basic terms, can anyone tell me how I should go about installing the turbo. What do I need to do to the engine before I make it turbo? Any extra upgrades or Mods ill have to do?
FYI, I want a turbo that puts out around 15lbs of pressure, with a Greddy BOV, and I good air intake into the turbo.
Please tell me all I need to do to make this successful
Thanks

heres a simple question, im planning to try this experiment anyhow, but want opinions from you guys.
where i live, it takes around 5 grand to turbo charge my car, the package includes an intercool, turbo, plus all pipes. the turbo is a gt 24 and gives a boost of upto 8 psi on my car.
now the experiment i want to try.. i want to take the turbo off a diesal 3.0 engine, and insall it on my 1.6 petrol. i have studied both turbo units, they look the same but i cant say anything about the air ratio... but even if i get a boost of +1 or +2 psi, i know itl give me 20 bhp.
i asked a lot of people, they said its not gona work. altough my mechanic says, it will work and give u a good boost. and its cheap as hell too, a 3l diesal turbo is roughly 200$ from a junk yard.
what do u think? why wudnt it work, i mean it should give a minor boost atleast, even if the -30 engine suction is covered, thats 15 bhp right there. ......?????

I have a 95 eclipse. It's a non turbo engine. I am trying to just get information on turbos and how they apply to non-turbo engines. How much does it cost to get a turbo put on a non-turbo engine? What work is actually required to do this? What all along witht the turbo itself is required? Where would you find info on how to do it yourself if you have the required parts. Thanks a lot.

I get a 30,000 dollars for a car when I graduate. I am getting a low-mileage Supra Twin Turbo, RX-7 Twin Turbo or 300ZX Twin Turbo. I know they're all close, but which of these cars perform the best? I'm talking power AND handling. I also want good response to mods... Don't think for a second this sucker is staying stock.
Camaro? Are you kidding me?
I'm not wasting 30 grand on ANY Camaro. Besides, can't I get a 2000 Corvette for this much? If I were going domestic I'd get a Vette.
