Please, can anyone recommend a good computer guru in Queens, NY? I'm probably going to have to have my hardware upgraded before I switch from dial-up to DSL.
Thanks in advance.

On 1-16-07, we switched our virus protection to AT&T. We have Yahoo! as our internet provider. The past 2 days, yesterday, 1-17-07 and today 1-18-07, I've noticed that when I click on the blue question on the Yahoo! Answers 10 pointer reward page OR when I click on the yellow box that reads: "Go To Yahoo! Answers", I get this: "Oops We are sorry, the URL you have entered cannot be displayed probably because: * The system is busy now. Please click on "Reload" button or try later. * The URL you entered is incorrect. Please check the URL you have entered. * This URL does not exsist any longer. Please click on other URLs. (At the bottom, it reads: Thanks for using Yahoo! Answers).
I'm not that familar with computer terms. Isn't the URL the email address of the site? I tried the "Refresh" button which,as I understand it, is the same as the "Reload" button; I got the same screen. If I got the screen, how can I have the wrong email address? What's up? Thanks, in advance, for your help.

Ok, here is the deal. I bought three new HP DV 9000 series Laptop's, dual hard drives, 2mb Ram, bla, bla, bla. One of them randomly will not start, (no hard drive noise at all and a completely black screen)
I did use "Your Uninstaller" to get rid of HP crapware already installed, but I also did this on the other computers as well, I also updated the bios on all the computer as the HP site said there was a specific hibernation wake up problem with the original bios.
Sometimes if I hit f11 when starting it will go to the recover partition and I can get a startup, but recently this has not even worked.
I practically exhausted all my skills when I did the bios thing, clearly the force is not strong with me. Next I am going to try staring at it really hard while simultaneously typing insults on it's keys, you know " your mother was a commodore 64" and stuff like that, but if doesn't work I will need one of you fine people to throw your skills on me.
Thanks

Using Windows 98SE it crashed in some way and would not boot right. I had a backup of the registry from soon after I installed the OS. I wrote that back into the registry. The computer booted back up into true color resolution, but it delveloped two error boxes on boot that was not there before. One referances network connection to short cur 'restart_vs.ink' is unavailible or one or more of the compenents is missing. The second refeaces can not find file C:\WINDOWS\kernel32.exe or one of its components missing or currupted. Something to that effect. How do I go erase those entries or write them back in their proper place? I believe it is the reason why after the desktop shows the system tray disapears and won't come back until I Ctr+Alt+Del and end task on the entry of the "missing shortcut". Also when I now try to print, I get an error box that say there is a script error on page no matter what application I am in. And disabling script debug has not worked.

I need to know if it would help to reinstall Windows to correct the problems: 1, Everything is very slow, but I can't scan the hard discs or defragment. Also, I can't copy and paste into a Word document. 2. Another problem is when I try to watch a web site video, it only runs for a few seconds, then stops until it downloads another few seconds. 3. The computer keeps freezing and I have to soft-boot.
If reinstalling Windows will help, will I lose my files and documents already saved into folders. Will I lose software downloads that I bought?
If not, and I do reinstall Windows 98, which I have now, should I do the download first and then delete the old one, or vice versa?
If I download Windows 2000 instead, will all my documents, etc., work all right?
I hope someone can help, as I'm sure that if I can use the computer maintenance programs, I could speed it up.
Also, my computer repairman doesn't like Norton and said to take it off. Does anyone have an alternative?

I was surfing the internet Friday night and all of a sudden my compter rebooted itself and went to the "Windows Error Recovery" screen. I have two options: 1) Launch Startup Repair (recommended) or 2) Start Windows Normally. When I try to start windows normally, it takes me back to this screen.
So, I try to launch startup repair. There's a window that asks me to Select a Language (english) and a keyboard layout (us), then I hit next. The next window asks me to "Slect an operating system to repair and click Next. Only Windows Vista operating systems are listed and can be repaired." ... "If you do not see your operating system listed, click Load Drivers to load driver for your hard discs. I don't see anything listed, so I hit "Load Drivers". I looked in all the folders but I can't find any type of "Setup Info" files...
Now, when it gets back to the Windows Error Recovery screen it acts like its rebooting and then just goes to a blank screen. It's also making weird clicking noise.

In windows xp when you download a file and attempt to run it with SP2, it blocks the file. If I unblock that file extension so that future downloads will not open a confim dialogue to ask whether or not to unblock the file...
!!!How do I re-enable blocking of that file extension after a download!!! That is the question.
Here is an image of what im talking about. & Seriously, dont answer this if you have no clue what you are talking about.
heres the image

Sorry the image didnt get posted correctly, yahoo doesnt allow it...
The first guy had a good answer, but that is not what im looking for.
When you download a file in SP2, it says it wont run it untill you unblock it, because xp has deemed it unsafe to open...
If I tell windows that the file extension is safe and to not ask further the same question the same extension. How do I later turn it back on...?
When you open attachments, Outlook displays a dialog box that prompts you to either "Open it" or "Save it to disk". The dialog box also includes an "Always ask before opening this type of file" check box. If you clear this check box, Outlook will in the future always open that file type without prompting you. To reset the default behavior so that Outlook will prompt you to open or save the file type, perform the following steps:
Open the Control Panel Folder Options applet.
Select the File Types tab.
Scroll down to the extension type that you want to reset.
Select the extension type, then click Advanced.
Check the "Confirm open after download" check box, then click OK.
Click ok and Exit.
Thats how its done, thanks for your answers though, I found this elsewhere.

I have heard horror stories from people who used one from electronic stores-so don't want to go that way-and no one I ask seems to know anyone. My sister in Florida has a great guy-but he was refered by a friend who had used him. Any suggestion will be appreciated. Thanks
