I have several questions. First of all, I have really, really bad sinus'; everyone in my family does. So, lately ( the past week or so ), I have been getting really bad sinus headaches. I have recently had some dental work done ( 2 root canals and a temporary filling ) and I have noticed that whenever I get those really bad sinus headaches, it makes the whole left side ( the same side that I recently had a root canal and a temporary filling done ) of my face and jaw hurt; it doesn't necessarily make the tooth that had the root canal hurt or the tooth that was filled. But definitely my face and jaw so it sometimes feels as if those two teeth are hurting...does that make sense? Secondly, at my last dentist visit ( about a month and a half ago ), I had a root canal done and on another tooth, I had a cavity; not a deep cavity but a cavity. So, after my dentist did the root canal, he put some medicine in the other tooth and sealed it up. He said he wanted to watch that tooth to see if that one would have to have a root canal also. My question is...how can you tell if it needs to have a root canal or not? It doesn't seem swollen or sensitive or anything like that...like I have been brushing it for awhile now and it doesn't hurt or anything like that. How long after he put the medicine in can you tell if it should have a root canal or not? What are the symptoms? Lastly and this is kind of embarrassing but...ever since I have begun dental work ( after 10 years or so of not going to the dentist ), I have noticed that I have begun to drool more than usual. Now, I used to drool...does that have anything to do with it? Does the recent dental work have anything to do with it? Thanks in advance!! Oh, also, I have been kind of weary to eat on the left side of my face because of the root canal and temporary filling that I recently had done ( the work was done on two of my bottom molars ). So, I have mainly been eating on the right side of my face which I have also been sort of reluctant to eat on because I have another tooth ( uppper molar ) that I had a root canal on and now have a temporary post in. So, basically, I have just been eating using my two front teeth and using part of my right side of my mouth...could this be why the left side of my face has been sort of achy? Thanks!! ...

I'm trying to figure out if a tooth next to a tooth that just had a root canal, needs a root canal also. My friend works for an endodontist. She is out of town so I can't call her. She put ice on my tooth when she was here, and nothing, (but that's the tooth that the dentist did the root canal on and said she was certain it was the correct tooth). She did the ice test on the tooth next to it also and OUCH!. So the tooth that I felt nothing on didn't hurt at all. The tooth next to it hurt like mad. So how do I know that the tooth that hurt like mad doesn't need a root canal either? Dentist said it doesn't. The xray is hard to tell... there's too much shadowing going on to see if the pulp is effected or not. I am on a second round of antibiotics because the pain returned a little after the root canal and my last round of antis ran out. So how can I determine that I am not in need of another root canal on the tooth next to the one that just had a root canal? I'm so tired of this. Help! ...

I had a root canal in 1998. Retreatment one month ago The infection was prfound. I thought I would feel better after the root canl. Ringing in my ears for over six months and thought that the root canal would help alleviate the problem. I also have had muscular pain in right arm (which is the side of the molar in question. The MD prior to the root canal thought I had fibromyalgia. When the infection was released I immediately felt better. However, I did get worse healthwise since the infection was outside the tooth.. I have had dizzy spells and some cognitive problems. There is so much on the internet regarding controversies in root canals and its impact on your overall health. I do not know whether to finish the root canal procedure or have my tooth pulled. The endodontist indicated that a resdiual infection can take as long as two years to rid itself from the body. I have read about the mercury problem in root canals. Are their any professionals who can offer opinions? I have gone to physicians and they ran numerous tests and blood cultures and they came up negative. I have asked for an MRI. The physician indicated that a tagged WBC would be more beneficial. However, he doesn't think that there is an infection. I have pushed for some moree conlcusive testing. I did difinitely have a root canal with a post. It seems as though the phsycians see things only within their specialty. I have had to bring together different specialties of information and press for more testing. Endo says she onlydoes root canal. Internist runs blood and says no infection for three years. However, Endo found puss within RC. I asked MD if puss - infection. Maybe Osteomyelitis. I am tired of the numerous doctors I have been to trying to make sense out of something that is causing me pain and dizziness. I do not know wht to do anymore. I have been to doctors and it doesn't seem as though they see the link between root canal and infection/medical condition. Help. ...

Hi. I had my 2nd root canal on a back tooth in '04. it was necessitated by an infection in the root. well, just found out yesterday the same root is infected again. my dentist recommends (in order of recommendations) either amputating the root so i'd have 2 roots left holding the tooth in; going in through the gum (ow) and "filling" the tip of the root as you would a cavity; bridge or implant. i am not sure what to do as I am terrified by dentists. has anyone ever had a root amputated or the root filled? if at all possible i'd like to save the tooth. I'm middle aged and plan on having my teeth for awhile longer if possible! thanks ...

My dentist had difficulty diagnosing the tooth on which to have a root canal ,as there were two teeth next to each other. He wound up doing the root canal on the wrong tooth, and only refunded me the fifty dollars that I paid for the filling on the tooth that actually needed the root canal. So now I have to pay for two 800$ procedures out of pocket (I have no insurance). Should I make a bigger fuss>? He only refunded the 50$ after I said something about having to pay for two.. I should have said the two teeth next to each other were both very sensitive, and apparently the root canal didnt show up on x-ray. I should also note that this all occurred after he drilled a cavity on the gum line that he said went near the nerve-the tooth was only in severe pain after he did this filling. I asked about this yahoo too and a dentist said it does happen. He did the hot and cold thing and the tapping, but both teeth were painful, I guess cuz they were on the same nerve. Thanks to everyone for answering , btw! This is what a dentist from Australia said in a response to previous question 2. white fillings (composites) are more likely to give post-op pain than amalgams. This can also be more likely near the gumline because there may not be enough enamel for the filling to glue onto. Xrays don't necessarily show that a tooth will need an RCT. They are just one tool in a range of diagnostic tests. Uusally the exact tooth can be detected from the ...

May, of this year, I paid cash for root canal. I recently started getting dental insurance and old dentist did not accept my insurance so I went to a new dentist. My new dentist have done quite of bit of work for me now and have prepared me for the crown for the root canal the old dentist did. But my insurance called and told me that the coverage would be denied because the root canal done in may was not complete as told by my xrays. I fear if the root canal has to be redone I will lose the tooth. After my new dentist prepared it, barely any tooth is left. But why didnt my new dentist notice the incorrect root canal?? Should I tell my old dentist what is going on?? do i let my new dentist fix the problem, could this be dental malpractice in need for a lawyer, especally if i end up losing the tooth? If not could I at least get my cash back for a root canal that was not even done right? should I go to a new dentist all together?? ...
