I have been using and practicing freelance with a bokken using what i have been tougt by one other in an iaido class..
I love the mind and spiret with natuer of iaido but like the sparring with bokkens they do with kendo..
iaido is really ritualized.. kendo is more hands on but is baced on points ...i dont like the point thing. i want to learn the art of the jap sword shoud i just take both classes?? that would be way to expensive$$ help me out guys....?<>?
...
I need a sword for iaido...wooden or metal, either's fine. Not too expensive, doesn't have to be sharp. I know that I can get them online, but I want to go see them in a store first....^^

In most martial arts, the broad sword is held with the blade pointing toward the sky. I've seen people holding the sword with one hand and the point aimed at the ground. What style is this? Iaido maybe??

I'm looking for someone who studies in Kendo, Battojutsu, Iaido and other sword wielding martial arts that live in Britain. Are there any out there?
I'd like to ask some questions to them that could perfect my own technique.
If you study other weapons or other martial arts, what do you study? Feel free to contact me also, any advice on improving myself is always welcome.
In case you are wondering, I study Ki-Aikido, although I'm am greatly interested in many other forms.

I live in Maryland and would like to speak with someone here who could assist me with my pursuit of this goal. All info appreciated.

Does anyone know if the British Government are trying to ban the sale, ownership and import of Samurai Swords? Just read a post on another marial arts board dated march this year but there is no more information. This is really sad for martial artists who practice iaido. But i do think they should only be sold to licenced practictioners. Any info or your views welcome.
It saddens me that true artists will suffer it the ban gets passed by the courts. I just cant see how one can practice cutting forms without one? :(
A little more research reveals that its just replicas and not the real practice swords that will be banned! The Iaido and kendo associations would be still be allowed to practice! Seems like another farce again! Better to train the police in muto dori!
...
Most people agree about the benefits of cross training but what about using the sword? From experience different sword arts only provide a small piece of the picture. Iaido for cutting, kendo for fencing, kejutsu for traditional combat forms. But what about muto dori and daishosabaki? Shouldnt one train in all for the complete picture?

sword arts like kendo, iaido, broadswords etc.

Coz i know bringing sword is forbidden now. But i love to learn one of them. Again, this question is for the one that really knows these martial arts.

A good school for Kendo is acceptable too - as it is not unlike Iaido and will include some actual sparring. I'm wanting to study my sword more seriously, and need a good school to start.
...
I Have just started to learn Iaido. I have a bokken at the moment and wish to get a proper sword to practice with within the dojo.
What sword would people recommend as a drawing sword for a beginner?
How do people rate Paul Chen Swords?
