I am getting a new pup soon- hes a chihuahua but mixed with something else. I have read up on the different ways to potty train a puppy such as litterbox training, and crate training. Since I will be living in an apartment with limited space and perhaps not a yard or immediate access to a grass area, I need some good indoor potty training advice.
The thing with the litterbox training is that I would have to spend the rest of the dog's life buying the litterbox mix which costs about $13 each and that adds up BIG after a while.
Crate training seems ok but I dont want my pup to think that I will always be the one to take him out when he needs to pee or poo. I want him to be able to show me himself (i.e. run to the door, ring a bell) and I dont want to keep him in a crate for the rest of his life.
I have no idea how I want to train this puppy. I know I need to be consistent and patient, but I'm looking for the right method of training. Thanks

When should I start potty training my son he is 20 months old (he will be 2years old October 26)?? My sister-in-law has already started potty training her 17 month old daughter a few months ago( at 14 months she started training her) and I thought that was a little early. I have heard that it is alot harder to potty train boys... Is this true??
When should I start potty training my son and does anybody have any tips on potty training a little boy??... My son is VERY smart! and he tells me when he has "poppies" but I still think he is a little young to be potty trained what do you think??
I have heard that too that you need to wait until they can communicate that they have to use the potty. And I have also heard that if you try too soon it will cause problems when they are older or will take longer... Thank you so much for all your wonderful answers!!

I have done a lot of Parelli training, and if any of you have read my question on barrel racing you know that the training hasn't worked out yet. But I did accomplish something I thought was pretty cool. I earned a skittish, just turned three, mare's trust and respect with his training. The mare could not stand to be around people, except one person and then I did the Parelli methods of training, and by the end of the day the mare was letting me scrath her withers and chest, something the other person hadn't been able to do without spooking the mare.
But I have seen somethings that make me wonder about Parelli training methods and I'm not sure if I want to do the training any more. And if any of you are wondering, I haven't sent my mare to any Parelli trainers (they are waaay to expensive for my liking).
But what does everyone else think about Parelli training?
Plus, along with being able to scratch her withers and chest I was even able to put her first ever halter on her by following the Parelli training methods. (Even if everyone else around me thought I was doing extra stuff). I haven't had a chance to do much more with the mare but I am going to get one tomorrow but before I do I don't want to get myself killed. So what does everyone else think?

Would like to train for a 500mile cycling September 2007 and need help designing a training plan including the right off season training this winter to get me on the right track.
I would very much like to ride a 500 mile race in September 2007. I won't be competing other than against myself. I have only done a 300km thus far and know that with the right training I can get through a larger event just fine. I would like to start my winter in the right direction and come out of it following a solid plan. I just don't know how to design such a plan, other than to follow the same plan I used for ultrarunning with the back to back long rides on weekends. Could someone help me with this project or at least put me in the right direction? I am expecially concerned with what I should do during the winter - heart rate training, weight training, continued base building as I don't mind riding in the snow???? Should I go with periodization? How do I build up mileage? When should I start?
I've actually read ultracycling and gained a lot, but am ready to branch out. It seems ultracycling.com is the only place to branch out to. Any others? I tried cycling forum as well.

A place I can show up at once in a while and train. Willing to pay mat fees, once or twice every month or so. Aikido, Jiu-Jitsu, Philipio Martial Arts, MMA I live several hours from Fort Wayne but am their a few times every month or so. Want to train usually on weekends or a Mon. once in a great while. I train in my home town but like to train with as many people as I can. Anyone who has a "garage" dojo or an estab. school that would like to talk. As for that if anyone is intrested in training I'm not going to say I'm some great fighter or skilled martial artist but am more than willing to train with those who are interested in training. I have trained since 1979 in one art or another. Last several years have devoted most of my time with Aikido. Before that several years in B.J.J. and MMA and before that FMA, etc. I do have a few MMA fights, a little karate point fighting. Want to train while in FT. Wayne. Anyone interested ?

I am getting a new puppy on Thursday, and the breeder is training the puppy on a pad, but I have heard that training the dog to go outside is better. If I decide to start training the puppy to go outside will that mess up the training that she has given him because she said he goes pretty good on his training pad. How do I train him to go outside and not mess him up? or do I continue letting him use the pad?

I know the US has the best military, but why can't they give everyone the training Rangers get? I'm talking about the US Army, i think a regular recruit should get Ranger training, and that will be our regular Army Soldiers, and then Special Forces should be like the Seals Training. And for Marines, they should get even tougher, or at least Longer, they are one of the best, why not be better?
Air Force training is a joke, i mean come on! Anyone who joins the Air Force is considered a wussie, they should get ranger training too, and that will be our regular Airmen. So then they could be involved in the fighting as well.
You know what?? why can't they just train everybody like they train the Special Operations?? We will be more powerful and stronger. Our regular training should be at least 4 months and special forces should be over a year.
Anyone agree? lol
whoan whoa whoa! You guys are taking this s.h.i.t too serious..lol
I was just saying this will be something cool, i know i said why this and why that, but i know it will be a waste of time and it will cost a lot of money. I guess i forgot to ask if u guys think that would be a cool idea if it was possible. I mean, why not. But i know we can't

Air Force training is a joke man, my sister has a friend who joined and wanted some dicipline, and guess what?? He is still the same idiot he was before..lol A shy shy person who is not confident about himself. He does like it, but i guess it's because it was easy and even easier now. Now special operations is a whole different thing, the only peole who get respect in the Air Force are the Pilots and the guys from the special operations.

My boyfriend and I just got a new puppy. He's an 11 week old Schnoodle named Reznor. We have started to train him and I was wanting some advice on how to stop the whining when he goes in his crate at night or when we leave, and what's the best technique for potty training when you live in an apartment. We have started click-training for obedience and the bell on the door technique for potty training. Do any of you have any other suggestions for quick, easy and effective bed time training and potty training??? THANKS!!!!
He gets A LOT of excercise... and if we let him out when he whines, he falls right asleep on our lap. So, he's definately tired! I just don't want him to have any sort of seperation anxiety. Ya know?
Thanks, bye the way, for your help. Keep the suggestions coming, I could use all the help I can get.

I am getting an 8 week male maltipoo. He is about 1.2 pounds. I want to train him to go inside because I live in an apartment and go to school (I dont work), therefore it will be easier to litterbox train him, any ideas about that? Is this not a good idea? The breeder told me to buy a toddler play pen and put his food and bed on one end and puppy pads on the other end of the play pen. How well do you think this will work in house training him. Later on, when he is older and bladder stronger I want to train him to go outside, but right now since is bladder is so small I know during the week I can not take him outdoor every hour or every two hours because I have class. So in the future I want him to go outside, but if I am not home be able to use the doggy litter. Do you think this is a reasonable expectation. When I get the puppy next week I will have a lot of free time to train him to the doggy litter, and the breeder has already been training him on puppy pads.
