 I am deciding between two guitars. I do not yet own one, but have been learning for a while and am going to buy my first electric. I am between a Mexican Fender Stratocaster and an Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul. From what I have read, the Mexi Fender is a good guitar. I know its nowhere near an American, however it is in my price range. I also have stumbled accross a blemished Epiphone Les Paul Limited for the same price.  It's a fender squier strat and it brings a tuner but only to listen to the frequency of the tuns, I don't have a reference pitch or a piano, is there a way to tune it specifically to play Metal/hard rock? see the problem is I don't know what those notes should sound like, I just want to tune it correctly, the tuner I bought didn't bring a wire, i'm totally new to this, so if I connect the guitar to the tuner then I need another cable for the amplifier, which it didn't bring, so I don't know how to tune it because I don't know that the notes should sound like, also, what tone should my guitar be on? And what is the little switch there for with like 5 settings? On the guitar. Thank for for your help. Also, can you please tell me how playing frets and stuff works? Like how do I know where to position my fingers to get the right sounds? Thanks.
