An artificial satellite travels in an elliptical orbit around the earth, at a large
distance from it. When the satellite is at its closest distance R0 from the center of the
earth, the velocity of the satellite is observed to have a magnitude v0, and a direction
perpendicular to the line of sight from the earth to the satellite. A) What is the speed
of the satellite when it is at a distance R0 from the center of the earth? Express your
answer in terms of v0, R0, and the radius Re of the earth, and the magnitude g of the
gravitational acceleration at the surface of the earth. B) At the instant when the
satellite is at this distance 3R0, from the earth, what is the direction between the
satellite?s velocity and the line of sight from the earth to the satellite? Express your
answer in terms of the satellite`s speed v at this instant and its speed v0 when it was
closest to the earth.

I am trying to set up a portable satellite dish for use with a TV and receiver in my RV. I was trying to make it work at home so I know what to do when I get to the campsite. I followed the directions that came with the satellite finder and the portable satellite dish. I powered up the receiver which gave me the azmuth and elevation for the satellite dish, but I cannot get the satellite finder to work. It is brand new - a Winegard SF-1000. I attached the coax which I attached to the TV port (I don't know what to call this, but it is where I attach a coax when the camp ground furnishes satellite or cable TV and all I have to do is turn on the TV and it works) on the outside of the RV to the TO RCVR side of the satellite finder, so the satellite finder is between the dish and the receiver. The receiver has power, but the satellite finder doesn't. Am I doing something wrong? This is the portable satellite dish I am using:

A satellite is in a circular orbit around an unknown planet. The satellite has a speed of 1.67 x 104 m/s, and the radius of the orbit is 4.39 x 106 m. A second satellite also has a circular orbit around this same planet. The orbit of this second satellite has a radius of 7.98 x 106 m. What is the orbital speed of the second satellite?
My work:
I had some crazy idea that proportions would work
V1/R1= V2/R2 which gave me 30356.7 which was incorrect
I really have no clue on how to approach this problem and any help given would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

How do the Satellite Tournaments work? I see all the time on the internet about $215 buy-in to WSOP or WPT Satellite Tournament. If you win this event where does it take you-into a next Satellite? How many satellites do you have to play to earn a WSOP or WPT seat?
Veleno45- Considering you had won a seat at the WSOP-it would be highly appreciated if you could respond (did not know how to contact you directly).

Does Sirius and XM radio work in Canada and Alaska? Does it work all over the globe including Australia and Western Europe? How does it work? What does the satellite in space look like? Is there more than one Satellite? Is there a Satellite for every channel? What are the odds of the Satellite getting knocked out of orbit? How does the technology work exactly? And why do Trees buildings and freeway overpasses block out my reception sometimes?

Hi,
Is it possible for someone with a satellite modem to get free internet access from just about any location on this planet? I mean, even if that is not the case, would it not be easy to control who uses the satellites, like GPS?
Are the any free satellites to connect to? I personally do not have a sat modem, but I do not want to invest in one to find out.
What if you needed to have internet access from a remote location in an emergency? Do you have to make any prior arrangements with a provider?
During the Asian tsunami two years ago, rescue teams had set up satellite modems in Indonesia could get internet access. Did they have to pay for internet?

A satellite is in a circular orbit around the earth. The period of the satellite is 27.1 hr. Calculate the radius of the orbit of the satellite. Data: Mass of the earth = 5.98 x 1024 kg.
What is the speed of the satellite (in m/s)?
I have most of the work but I'm stuck in the middle of the first question.

How to relate the antenna receiver at users' homes to the space satellite as well as the big satellite dish at the satellite broacasting center? Why is that the DTH antenna is small? How's high or low frequencies related to satellite communication?

Subscribing to Cable TV services has become more expensive in my country in Singapore! It costs about US$50 a month for the full package! No kidding!
Therefore, I decide it was not worth paying for it anymore and decide to install a satellite dish instead in order to watch hundreds of tv channels worldwide.
I saw several satellite dishes on sale from ebay but I'm not sure if it will work if I purchase a satellite dish from ebay! I'm afraid it will not allow me to receive hundreds of channels worldwide and just act like an ordinary local antenna!
Is there any genuine satellite dish I can get from the Internet to receive hundreds of tv channels worldwide? I don't really mind about the price if I'm able to watch Satellite TV for life after a one-time payment!
I was not looking for any Satellite PC software! I just want it live on my television!
Your recommendations are greatly appreciated!

I've been thinking some time now about switching to satellite and use dsl for data. I'd like to know what experiences other people have had with satellite tv.
