I'm deciding between that and a Chevy Equinox.
I love the Beetle because it totally reflects my personality. However, I'm concerned about space and whether or not the convertible roof is going to be burden I shouldn't be trying to take on for my first car? Are convertible roofs difficult to maintain? And before anyone says to just opt for the beetle without the convertible roof, I dont want the beetle unless I can have the roof. ;D It's too cute.
How many miles does your Beetle have? Is it still running good? I'd like to know other people's experiences with their Beetles. :)
And just a shot in the dark, does anyone know if I can some of those UK Beetle Art decals down in the US? So cute, wonder why they're not offering it down here. :(
The Equinox on the other hand is alot bigger, and I know I'll have lots of space. However, isnt it alittle too much for a starter? Hmm...

Should I buy a 2007 Beetle or Jetta? Why is a Jetta the same base price as a Beetle? What is the difference between the New Beetle and the 2.5 Beetle?
BACKGROUND: A little background information. Also, I take good care of my stuff. Whatever I buy I plan to have it for at least 5 years, probably much longer.
My current vehicle (a 1985 Toyota 4x4 P/U) is in need of serious repair. I have owned it for 20 years! The engine is still quiet as a mouse. Unfortunately it needs to be restored. So I'm considering a Jeep Wrangler or a Volkswagen Beetle.
LOL, I know they have nothing in common. I really like the 2007 Wrangler but I think it is going to be out because the gas mileage is horrible (16/19) and my commute is about 18 miles one way.
Now my girlfriend also suggested I might want to look at the Jetta. I like them both. But the Jetta seems like a lot of car for the money...so I'm skeptical.

Does the 1975 VW Super Beetle 1600 have A/C or for that matter any VW Beetle have A/C and I do not want to hear about the New Beetles

I have a 72 VW Super Beetle. Does anyone have spare parts? Maybe you have parts you want to trade. Let me know.
I am also looking for custom tail lights. Does anyone make them for this car. I know they do for models that arent' super beetles as well as for the 73 and up super beetles.

I always wanted my cars to be either black or silver grey. But with the classic beetle (presently maroon-colored), for the 'fun and unpretentious' car that it is, I would like to make a survey on what color should a fun car (like the beetle) be. The color most suggested would be the next color of my beetle. Thanks

Please help for a project!
Old or new Beetle (year)
How do you/did you like your VW beetle?
Was it reliable?
What attracted you to the beetle?
...
it has a black shell, soft, hairy underbelly, and is native in Tennessee. I found it in my basement today and captured it so I could find out what it is. I thought it was a hercules beetle because of it's size, but I did an image search on the hercules beetle and it did not look like the beetle I found.

I OWN A 2004 BEETLE RAG TOP & JUST NOTICED MY TOP IS OUT OF LINE ABOVE MY PASSENGER WINDOW . IT BECAME NOTICEABLE THROUGH A SCRATCH ON THE METAL FRAME WORK & THAT BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THAT THE CANVAS WAS A GOOD INCH ABOVE THE HEIGHT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE & HAD BEEN LETTING IN WATER WHEN WASHING IT . HAS ANYONE HAD A SIMILAR DIFFICULTY WITH ALLIGNMENT ON THEIR TOP ? OR ANY OTHER OUTSTANDING PROBLEMS WITH THEIR BEETLE , THANKS , TP. MULLIN

For as long as I can remember, I have always randomly found these little tiny beetle like things about 1/8th of a inch long in my room. I have mostly always found them on my comforters. I keep my carpet vacuumed, linens washed and clothes washed...
My mom recently thought they could be bed bugs so I researched and they are definately not. The closest looking (almost identical) big I have found was a carpet beetle.. however, they are in the south and sometimes northeast.
Description: They are about an 1/8th inch long maybe and an 1/16th wide. They are brown, white and maybe a little black, in a pattern almost resembling a moth.. Head barely visible and legs barely visible.
So, what is this little bugger?

I know, the Potato Beetle (sometimes known as the Colorado Beetle) is not necessarily something you´d keep as a pet but she thinks he´s so pretty so I am letting her use a small plastic fish tank that has a lid so he can´t escape.
Any input on how to keep him happy and alive while she has him?
why not let her hold him much - to protect her or the beetle?? lol.. he´s a tough little bugger that was lost in a place where death was certain so she "rescued" him :-D
Wow! Thanks everyone - for comments and problems addressed as well!
First - keeping one potato beetle is not against the law here.. lol.. it was brought to this country in the 1870s and all efforts to remove it were futile of course..smile..
Second, I´m learning more and more - in WW2 the British seem to have thrown a huge number of them off the planes in order support their war effort and keep Germany without potatoes
Third - thank you so much for the nightshade tip - I had thought that might be their "foodgroup" and taken off a branch from our tomatoplant.
We are putting soil in tonight and I had previously pointed out some weeds in the garden (most of our garden seems to be weeds) she can plant.
Last - I would not have let her take the beetle out of it´s natural environment! It was in a dining facility where it surely would have been killed very soon so I let her come to the rescue.

In two years, for my seventeenth birthday, i am going to be paying for half of my car and i need as much information on the beetle and beetle convertable as i can get. i already decided that i want the volkswagen beetle for the looks, gas mileage, and to just have a fun car, but i still want to get all the pros and cons of it. i have been doing a lot of research on it, but the research is different than actual life experience, and that is where i need the help. i want to know everything that anyone can tell me about it. i do also want to know if there is a better car to have as your first car between the beetle and the convertable. i also know that there is an option of a manual or semi maunal top for the convertable and wanted to know how practical they were. i am working on a small budget, so as much as i would like to add a bunch of accessories to the car, i probably will not be able to, so i just want to know about the regular car itself. thank you all sooo much for your help!

well, I posted earlier this week about a yellow '72 VW Beetle, and what I should do.
Since then, I have researched and researched on the internet for different beetles in my driving range, and have found a couple.
I considered ebay first, but I realized I could never talk my family into an ebay car, since we cant see if before we buy, and we cant drive it to make sure it works okay...
anywho. I found this car about 150 miles away in a town we visit regularly, and I would absolutely love to buy it.
According to the advertisement:
" same owner since 1988; approximately 113,000 miles on the body; 5,500 miles on the rebuilt engine; keep stored - no rust; new tires; beaded wheels; completely rebuilt from the engine, body pan to the top! Nice Car! MUST SEE!"
Of course,t here was other info, but that was the sellers comments...
Also:
history is: ·
Accident Free
· Clean
· Garage Kept
· Non Smoker
Its all for about $5000, which I can do. What do you think?
I know plenty of people that have beetle convertables and drive them daily, so ur comment of them being a collector is up to the buyer.
I think a car is useless if its not used for what it was made for.
Its like having something special to you, you can hide it, and keep it forever, yet forget about it, or use it, and enjoy it...
I also dont mind getting my hands dirty for a beetle... Dont judge me because Im a girl, i have gotten alot of that on this site lately, and i dont appreciate it.
Im asking your advice on whether or not I should look more into it, not a criticism on my incapabilities to take care of one...
Im responsible, and I have been a lover of beetles since I knew what a car was...
thank you to all the positive responses.

I have a 1965 VW Beetle in white colour, that has a recorded total mileage of 85,000 miles. The car's in immaculately genuine condition; having original accessories like rear and head lamps, indicators, speedometer, wheel caps etc. Only its fenders are repainted, and it shines like a new car. It has a functional PYE radio, manufactured and installed in 1966. The car was owned by my uncle, an ex-major general and Military Secretary to the President of Pakistan. He had gifted this car to me seeing my interest in Beetles. How much do you think it's worth in Pakistan (or in your country for that matter)? Christie's evaluators had put its value at 4000 pound sterlings, just by judging its condition from its interior and exterior's pictures Any suggestions?
