I can't stand pop music! I mean, some of it is decent, but Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend"? She is in her mid twenties and married now so why would she choose to sing such a song. Plus, the lyrics are horrendous. It's such garbage! And don't get me started on singers (if you can even call them that) like Jessica Simpson, and Paris Hiltion. They are such bimbos. And this one is my least favorite: Hannah Montanna or whatever her name is. She can't sing or act well at all! The ONLY reason she ever got a shot at being famous is because her one hit wonder daddy pulled strings for her. Pop music (for the most part) is atrocious.

I'm doing research on World Pop Music and I'm wondering if anyone has any good sites to get information on African Pop music.

I'm doing a paper on American pop music and I want to know in what other countries it is popular? I know that it is popular in France and I'm not sure where else? Australia?
Also I want to know what you think the future of American pop music is going to be.
Provide sources if possible.

I mean, honestly, pop music has ALWAYS been just fluff for your ears, a pretty voice singing about things that their demographic really has no idea about. They don't write their own music, and they definately don't play any instruments. Why is this mindless music so popular. I know the term pop is a shortened word for popular, but besides that, why is it so popular?
(P.S. Almost all of the rap music produced today is pop music, people rapping about things they don't actually own, with a record label telling them what kind of image they have to have, what they have to have in their videos, who will write their music for them, and who will make their beats.) WHY?

This is the topic for my debate...
I would like some suggestions for a teamline which relates to the influence on kids that pop music has and some points and rebutts.

What do you think most of today's pop music singers would do with their life if they lost their voice and could no longer sing?

Pop music really does suck now. In the 60's, pop bands like Beatles were awesome. Now, talentless people like Fergie are infesting the minds of today's youth. I mean, seriously, listen to Fergie's 'Glamorous', all she does is brag about her cars, limos, yachts, private planes, jewelry and how rich she is. This is also why MTV now sucks. I mean, the only reason MTV2 was made is because MTV never played music anymore. Mtv now plays stupid pointless shows like Real world, laguna beach and super sweet 16. Oh my f*cking god, i thought celebrities and MTV was supposed to set good examples, but hey, not every girl could get a BMW as her first car, can she? And don't get me started on hip hop. No offense, but when i think of hip hop, i think of black people. I personally think hip hop degrades black people, as well as women. All they do is spit words about sex, sex sex, cars, bling, and more sex. And women. This corrupts kids_not videogames,or metal..MTV.
Now, who agrees with me??

I almost lost a friend a year ago when I said that pop music listeners are less cultured than classical listeners. The guy was pretty mad. Since then, I have been listening to pop music by various artistes to atone for my ignorance, but still find that it lacks a lot of things that classical music has an abundance of, for example pop music is nowhere near as poetic as classical music, nor does it have that certain intelligence in which the musical lines move, and interact with each other. I try to remind myself that no one type is better, they're just different, but still find that classical music is superior. After all it has withstood the trials of time, whereas some pop artistes have already been forgotten. But pop artistes earn much more. What do you think?

I saw a pop music video in China this month. It is a video with a fish that has a lure in it's mouth eating shrimp. I can't read chinese and my mandarin isn't that good. Does anyone know the name of the song and the music group that plays it? The lyrics include in english....."Hello" and the chorus is "hi dee hee hi dee hoo....hi dee hee hee". Thanks in advance.

When I was in about sixth grade, I was lent a Vietnamese cassette of pop music. I think the artist's name was Giang Ngoc, and the title of her album was New Wave. I think it was made in the late 80s - early 90s. She did some songs in English, part of the lyrics I remember were "Shy like an angel/you had my passion from the very start". This was so long ago, but if I was to find it, I'd like that. I am not a speaker of Vietnamese nor am I a native of the country, but I had an interest in world music at an early age! I'm usually good at finding things obscure, but this one just eludes me. Thanks in advance :)

I love Pop Music like Britney Spears, Christina's, Lindsay, Kelly Clarkson, Avirl Lavigne and so on. But I also like some Country. I need some new music to add to my playlist at myspace..any ideas would be greatly appreciate! :o) THANK YOU!!
PS I also like 80's music, but they have to be sort of well known, if they aren't (well known) I usually dont like the music for some strange reason.

I have a confession to make! After a recent trip to Egypt where (for some reason) I got a Polish pop music channel on the TV in my room, I am hooked on Ramona Rey! In particular I can't stop playing "Pieknie Jest" (I have no idea what that means). Does anyone know any similar artists from Eastern Europe, and can you recommend particular tracks to check out?
(I think Kylie Minogue could do an awesome version of Pieknie Jest, with the help of a good translator!)

Thanks to rap dominating the current culture every white american kid from an educated respecatble background wants to act ghetto and listen to horrible ghetto music. On top of that traditional pop such as Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra and Broadway music which was once the dominate form of popular music and was what everyone listened to is now obscure to most younger generations. This is mainly due to the White americans guilt over the treatment of African-Americans in previous eras. As it is most of the current white pop music such as Lindsay Lohan and the Backstreet boys is really bad. This is because all,the money is invested in ghetto trash music. If more money was invested in pop music it would be as high quality and as popular as it once was, there would be good pop music currently. What does everyone else think?
btw for All you PC bastards who don't like what I'm saying about that rap trash shove your comments up your butt!

Jeez, first Gwen puts out a dumb yet likeable dance pop record, then Fergie copies it, and then Gwen copies the copy. Pop music is so bad right now, isn't it?
