 ok so i absolutely love to sing, but i am very shy about singing in front of people. my question is how do i know if i sing well or not? when i hear myself sing, i think i sound really good. but then when i record myself singing on a cell phone or a PDA, it doesnt sound that good. is it just bad quality that makes me sound bad? or do i really sing badly? or is it just hearing myself sing that makes me think its bad, and if someone else heard it, they'd think its good? you know, like when you think you look horrible, but someone else thinks you look cute, sort of like that. i dont want to have to sing in front of someone else and ask them how it sounds. please help! ...

 i dont want to take singing lessons from a teacher and i cant take a singing class at school since my schedule is completely filled i just sing along to the songs on my ipod as practice i have a deeper voice than normal girls so its harder for me to sing high my mom and my sister say that i am tone def cuz i cant sing at all i my sister are gonna try and get the hsm sing it game for the wii to see if we both can really sing when i am singing along with my friends i get a little embarassed cuz i cant sing pretty much the question is how can i improve my singing without lesssons ...

 Ok well, in our school we do a talent show. Its pretty important. We practice for a month or more. I have always wanted to be in it, but I could never get the nerve to go up and sing. This year is my last year at this school, and I want to leave and be remembered. Well there is this guy band in our grade. They play rock/alternative and they wanted a female singer because they are doing songs from Paramore. Well they asked two of my friends. Neither of them actually wanted to do it. One said no, and so did the other but it turns out that she might end up doing it. Not many people know that I love to sing. Just my close friends. I really think that singing in this band would be a great thing for me to do. Do you think I should ask my friend to tell them about me? Or should I just let he sing, even though she doesn't really want to? Should I do something by myself, even though that would be alot harder then with a band? I really want to sing in the band, what should I say to them? Well, I would say that I can sing. (i dont want to brag) My friends have told me that I have an amazing voice..one of them admits that she was jealous of me. And I can sing Paramore pretty well. ...

 I used to sing when I was a kid. In fact, I was on the choir, preformed Rent & Phantom of the Opera in Middle School plays, but I can't sing regular songs (pop music). I've already tried recording myself and singing constantly; but my singing doesn't seem to improve. I can't hit the notes, and worse; I can't change between notes fast enough! I think my largest road-block is the bass in my voice. I have a somewhat deep voice, so christmas songs (Frank Sinatra, Bert Bacharach, etc.) are a piece of cake. But I want to sing songs like Roxanne, Candle In the Wind, etc. For those songs, I sound horrible. I have no idea how to approach this problem. To me, it sounds like i'm singing them fine, but when I play the recording, it's totally out of tune; it sounds awful. Everyone around my doesn't have the heart to tell me how awful I am; so I lack an objective audience. But if there is anyone who is actually good at singing; any help/tips would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you so much everyone. I really can't pick a favorite; u've all been very helpful.  and im singing along to other songs with my Ipod and i can get everything out but when i try to do it without the Ipod i cant get hardly anything out (i can sing every word good with the Ipod but without it i can only sing a few words and they sound kind of shaky) why is that? is there anything i can do to make it so that i dont need to hear the music to sound the same as when i sing along with it? when i listen and sing at the same time the music is up almost all the way will it help if i turn the volume down a litlle every time im singing with it? ...

The girls I went to school with would always switch the gender of a song sung by a guy, but I always thought this was confusing and not true to the song. I always sing the song as the artist sung it.
