i heard that a new xbox 360 is coming out. it is black and it is going to have a 120 gb hard drive and hdmi output. Does the prenium xbox 360 have this. If not, then what is the difference between the xbox with HDMI and the xbox without HDMI. What does HDMI even do?

i have a Sony DVD player with HDMI output, a Sony Receiver with 2 HDMI in and 1 HDMI monitor out, plus several A/V in/out channels, and a Samsung DLP TV with 2 HDMI inputs. I connect the DVD to the receiver's HDMI DVD input and the Receiver to the TV via HDMI. I get a picture on the TV, but no sound. Everything i read says that this is the correct hookup. The internal mute on the TV is off. i spoke to Sony and they said to run an audio cable from the TV to the audio input on the receiver. this works, but i thought that HDMI will carry both sound and video. based on what i think i know, i should get sound and picture going through my A/V receiver and then a picture on the TV and sound from the speakers. it's just one more cable i would have to buy and dont want to. Any help wopuld be appreciated, thanks.

I have 2 HDMI ports in my television, I think the trick is to get it onto an HDMI channel. There are two HDMI channels, one is occupied by my PS3. I have the HDMI cable hooked up to the dvd player and the other side in the HDMI port, i choose the resolutions as 1080i, and the resolution says CVBS. On the PS3, the resolutions read normally.(1080i) help??
NTSC dvd's dont work on my PS3, but my HDMI dvd player is multi-regional

Ok I have a HP Pavilion Laptop with HDMI and I-Link ports. And I also have a Sony HC-7 HD camcorder. I just bought a HDMI cable (HDMI to HDMI) today and I plugged it into my camcorder and my laptop but nothing happens. How do I get my recorded videos in high defination mode up onto my laptop using the HDMI cable?? I tried plugging both the I-link cable as well as HDMI cable at same time, but still nothing happens unless the video is converted to DV instead of HDV...Please help! Thanks in advance.

I may seem ignorant on new technology, but here it goes. I have an HDMI output on my HD-DVD, and a HDMI input/output on my receiver. But I have no HDMI input on my TV (it's about 6 years old, so it's ancient in the technology world). I can connect via HDMI cable to the receiver to get "HD" sound (or whatever you want to call the sound output). And I suppose I can use component cables to get a pretty good video. But don't I loose the upconversion benefits with respect to normal DVDs of the HD-DVD player w/o HDMI? Is there anyway to take the video signal from my receiver to the TV beside component input? I don't think my TV even has a DVI input. Am I basically SOL on the upconversion benefits here?
Edit to add that I have an HDTV set, not a standard one. It can go up to 540p/1080i. So upconversion would have some benefit.

Newbie here. I'm trying to understand HDMI and Home Thetre systems. I currently have a Panasonic Plasma HD tv with 2 HDMI inputs and a comcast digital cable box with HDTV. I'm looking to get an economical Home theatre system and DVD player. I believe that I want to get a DVD player that does upconvert for my HD tv which requires the HDMI? Most of the lower end receivers I am looking at don't have HDMI inputs or outputs. If I get an upconvert DVD can I/should I use the hDMI port and connect it directly to the TV and then run a seperate audio cable to a receiver. Or should I fork out the money to get a receiver with HDMI ports. What are the disadvantages or advantages? Also I've seen some recievers that do the upconvert...is that a better way to go? Ultimately I'm trying to achieve a decent sounding system that's easy to use without spending big bucks. I want to hook up a DVD player, VCR, and play music through the surround sound. I was looking at the Onkyo HT-S590S Home theatre. thanks!

We are having problems with the connection between our DVD player and TV. We recently bought an upconvert DVD player (a JVC HR-XVC38, to be exact) to go with our HDTV (a CRT Samsung slimfit TX-S3082WH) To connect the two nd get the best picture, we bought a Phillips HDMI cable:
It
is this cable, but it may be a shorter length. The Problem: tried to watch DVD, but we only got the picture- no sound. we tried muting/unmuting, changing from HDMI input 1 to HDMI input 2; we switched DVDs, turned the power of the TV and DVD player off and on again, and reconnected the HDMI cord at both ends (TV and DVD player)... none of these things worked. does anyone know of any particular problems with these specific products? any general typical problems? We have had problems with the sound being off-sync with DVDs before, so I think it's the DVD player, but idk-all are under warranty, I think

I bought some HDMI Cables from last year and have noticed that Wikipedia says there is a change in 'HDMI' status to 1.3. Like when USB jumped to USB 2.0. Does anyone have any HDMI 1.3 equipment that can tell me what a large difference there is? Do my original HDMI cables still work with this equipment?

i just bought a lcd tv with hdmi input. Currently the tv and dvd is connected via the composite signal and I'm planning to buy a new dvd player with hdmi capability to maximize the quality of the lcd tv.
My problem is that my home theater receiver does not have hdmi capability. I know that HDMI carries both video and audio signals.
Is it possible to use video and audio separately. HDMI just for the video and Digital (coaxial) for audio?

I have an hdtv which has only one hdmi port which is connected to my hd/dvr box. I really want to get an hddvd, but as you can see my hdmi port is taken up. my only resort is to use a the dvi-d to hdmi cable to to connect a hddvd player to my tv. My question is will the picture quality of my hddvd player be significantly less when using a dvi-d to hmdi cord instead of a hdmi to hdmi cable? Also i can i watch my hd hbo shows with surround sound?

My father-in-law has had his 42" Samsung LCD HDTV for less than a year and his HDMI ports are going out. He has the extended warrenty but according to the warrenty review it is the end user's use and abuse of the HDMI Port so it is not covered. The service techs he called said that it is a re-occuring p[roblem with the HDMI ports and it is a known flaw because the weight if the HDMI cables cause the port to fail. I can fix it easy, but my quiestion is has anyone else had this problem and do you think it is class action time? I mean they know they have the flaw and they don't address anything about securing your HDMI cables for stress relief or anything.

I recently upgraded my video card in my pc, I was previously connecting via vga, the video card I have is a nvidia 7300 gt 256 mb, it has a dvi output, my 32 inch lcd has a max res of 1366x768 and hdmi input as well as vga. No dvi, I was thinking of purchasing a dvi to hdmi cable, will this work just as good as a stand alone dvi cable? I also know that hdmi has audio as well as video does dvi to hdmi have audio too? Dvi is completley digital as well as hdmi so does the signal remain digital with a dvi to hdmi? Any one with experince using dvi to hdmi can you let me know if you can tell the difference between that and vga. The wire I was looking at is a 6.5 ft dvi to hdmi cable, I'm considering this because I was told the longer the wire that there is some signal loss is this true??? I thought you only get signal loss with analog sources not digital., please help...
Thanks alot, all answers are much appreciated...

I'm looking at a Sony Receiver. I am going to use it as part of a Home Theater System (HTS) that I am putting together. Cost is an issue so this receiver is a nice balance for me as far as power and cost.
This receiver has "HDMI Passthrough" Below is the description from the web. In summary it appears there are 2 HDMI inputs and 1 output.
"Receiver: The receiver boasts 900 watts of power and features HDMI passthrough that allows for uncompressed audio and video to pass through directly to your television. The HDMI switching feature on the receiver also allows you to connect multiple sources with HDMI interface."
I have a Direct TV HD receiver that is currently connected via HDMI to my plasma TV. As I read the above though I would connect the Direct TV Receiver to the HTS Receiver, then receiver to the TV, but basically it would just "pass through" the signal. If so, would it also output to my HTS speakers at the same time?
Bottom-line can someone explain HDMI Passthrough
OK so I think the biggest question is will the Receiver, while passing the HDMI signal through, go ahead and route sound to my HTS Speakers as well. The 2nd reviewer thinks so, and that would make sense, but I am afraid it won't. Then what? A set of components from the HD receiver to the HTS receiver just for the sound? Blah.

Ok, here's the situation....
In our family room there's a 1080p 46 in tv with an HDMI outlet. I currently have my PS3 hooked up there using the HDMI cable, but my dad is sick of me playing it there and wants it out of there soon. Up in our bonus room however there is a 42 inch TV w/o an HDMI outlet but it does have component, S-video, and composite outlets. If I hooked up my PS3 there with component cables from Sony, would the picture change?
Also, I see on the back of the games I have, that it says Supported HD Video Output: 720p. So does this mean that until a game comes out supporting 1080p, I won't see a difference using component over HDMI?

I just bought a new 37'' Dell LCD Tv 1366 x 768 pixels and hooked up with Dish network HD and DVR in one box. I have the HD channels and all.
I bought a PureAV by Belkin HDMI video/audio cable from dell for 100 bucks but it took awhile to ship out so in the mean time i used my brothers free HD component cables. Well my HDMI just came and i hooked it up from my box to my tv and wanted to see how much of a difference there was so i did side by side PIP and at my disappointment the HDMI seemed equal if not alil worse.
Just wondering if i was needing something else or if i did something wrong? Or Am i still just not understanding this HDTV thing... Heard that HDMI is the best for HDTV!

I have just purchased a Sony Home Theater system (HT-7000DH). The receiver has HDMI Passthrough (2 HDMI inputs/1 HDMI output). The DVD player is HDMI as well. I also currently have a DirectTV HD Receiver hooked up via HDMI to my Plasma TV. I want to fit all this together seamlessly.
The HDMI signals carried by the HT receiver are only "passed through". Video and sound pass through the HT receiver without being processed or sent to the speakers (this is intentional by Sony for legal reasons). The receiver does allow for the reassignment of sound inputs.
From earlier support here I believe to get surround sound I will need to run optical or component cables (in addition to HDMI) from both sources to my HT receiver. Right/wrong? Two other questions. 1) Will I then run a Optical Out from my HT receiver to my TV? 2) Do I have this all wrong?
If you can answer here that would be great. Or if someone will share an e-mail address I can contact you there. Sorry my first HT ever.
