 I have a D50 and want a Nikon telephoto lens to go with the Nikon 18-55mm kit lens. I have read numerous online opinions and reviews of the Nikon 70-300mm G lens and the Nikon 70-300mm ED lens and would appreciate hearing from anyone who has actually had the opportunity to USE both lenses to conduct their own comparison. If so, can you please comment on the pictures that each take? Does the single ED element make enough difference to justify the extra price? I would be interested in seeing actual picture comparisons and/or hearing your subjective opinions about both lenses. I am also considering the Nikon 55-200mm but want the highest zoom for my money, to take nature photos that are too distant for my kit lens. I welcome all opinions but particulary would like to hear from someone who has USED both lenses - and probably gone through this same deliberation. I prefer to stay with Nikon lenses. Thank you. ...

 currently, i own a 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 lens for my Nikon D80. i decided to also buy a nikon 50mm f/1.4 lens. now, what i "want" is a wide angle zoom lens and i'm stuck between the nikon 17-55mm f/2.8 and the sigma 18-50mm f/2.8?? the nikon is MUCH more expensive. does the sigma's lower price reflect its possible poorer quality compared to the nikon lens, or are they evenly matched?? if spending the extra cash for a SIGNIFICANT quality differnece is what it takes then i'll do it...but if both the sigma and nikon are similiar quality wise, then whats the best decision?? HOWEVER, another idea i have is getting the nikon 50mm f/1.4 and buying a nikon 24mm f/2.8 and that's all...i want to take night/low light shots, of people OR architecture, so wide angle shots esp. ....will the 24mm prime lens be wide angle enough for most shots and with the 50mm good for portraits...or should i buy the nikon 17-55mm or sigma 18-50mm?? PLEASE HELP, thanks ...

 I'm about to buy a whole new system from scratch. I'm probably going to buy the D80 with the aim to upgrade in the next few years in stead of the D200 now, and spend the money on the lenses. I want to shoot pictures of my children to blow up to large art prints and travel photography (landscapes and street shots). If you were to get a nice range what would you choose?  I'm a keen photographer. In university days, I moonlighted as sport Photographer for Tennis matches. Have shot Bjorn Borg and many other famous players of the time in door. I've used Nikon FM2n, FE, F3 and F before. I also carry a small Nikon automatic just when I travel and wanna hand my camera to other people to shoot me with the view. I have been working as a banker for decade and now taking pictures only for pleasure. I want to move to digital now that qualities are much improve. I have a small Nikon digital with 6 million PX. I'm told that 10 million is film quality already (not to mentioned the 12 million Nikon). I want a digital camera to take good quality (but not studio type) to take it when I'm travel. Can't decide between D200 and D80, it seems so similar except the material use to build. D200 seems tougher, but how about the features; it's still very similar. Can anyone explain why I should pay extra for D200? D 80 lenses seem better than more expensive D200 lenses. ...

 I just bought a brand new Nikon D80 DSLR about a week ago. It came with a Nikon EN-EL3e battery and the Nikon MH-18a quick charger. I also have another (generic) battery that I purchased off eBay. I charged both batteries before they were put in the camera. I waited until the charge light stopped blinking on the charger which is supposed to mean that they are charged. And then I left them on the charger until they were cool to the touch (I read this was the best procedure). When I put them in the camera, one battery read 54% on the in-camera battery meter menu and the other battery read 52%. I used the camera and ran both batteries down to around 10%. Then I charged both batteries again. Now the generic battery reads 74% and the Nikon battery reads 53%. Any idea why 2 different brand new, fully charged batteries would not read 100% (or close to it)? I was thinking maybe they need to be charged a few more times to become "worn in"? Has anbody else experienced this problem? I have checked on the Nikonians web site and could not find anybody with a problem similar to mine. Apparently, there is a very common problem with the D80 where the battery meter will drop to 0 and then back up to full and it has to do with the lens contacts being loose. But this is not the same problem that I am having. ...

 im traveling to italy this summer and wont be going on a trip for a while, so i want to have a NICE camera (i have a sony cybershot DSC-T1, and i'm sick of it hahaha). anyways, im stuck between the Nikon D80 and the Canon Digital Rebel XTi. i like the way the Nikon D80 fits in my hand. but, i like the self cleaning sensor the canon has. i think im leaning more towards the nikon. SO, now my question is WHAT LENS TO GET??? i can only afford one for this vacation, and i need one that will do pretty much everything, closeups, people, landscape/architecture, nature, and LOW LIGHT or NIGHT shots, so a fast aperture like 2.8 or something. can u recommend the best "all in one" lens for the nikon. i appreciate any helpful feedback. thx ...

 I am hoping to purchase a good DSLR in the next 6-12 months, and need some help in deciding between Canon and Nikon. I recently bought a Canon Powershot S3 IS to fill in the gap, and I love this camera, my first experience with Canon. I have a Nikon N70 SLR that I also love, and had thought to stay with Nikon, to use my existing lens. It is a Nikkor AF 24-120 zoom lens, and also have a tele-adapter for it. Will this lens work on the Nikon DSLR's? All things considered, which brand, if either, would be a better camera for my uses? I take a lot of nature shots: flowers, trees, insects, animals, more close up than wide angle. Oh ... my budget will be $900-$1,200 (I hope). Thanks for any advice!  hey i was wondering if i should go ahead and purchase the Nikon d40 or wait possible for an upgraded version of the camera if that happens soon.or should i purchase it now also i am wondering if Nikon will ever release a 18-55mm lens with VR since canon will be releasing one this October the Vr feature is very important to me because i travel a lot i am aware of the 18-200mm vr but i cant cant afford a 700 dollar lens also i have decided to go with the d40 beacuse it is compact so traveling everywahre around the world with it wont be heavy to carry and beacuse i have heard good news about its picture quality thanks mainly i am wondering if nikon will release more lens in the near future with VR so ican just purhase the body and the lens help and suggestions are welcomed Just wanted to claifry why VR is important to me beacuse i loveeeeee night photography especially when traveling and i do not carry a tripod with me at all so thats why i would love to see this feature on the 18-55mm lens btw the d40x i have heard is not that much better and in somecases worse then the d40 i have heard beacuse of flash sync and the megapixels dont matter is this correct so should i go with the d40 i think i am or the d40x thanks again ...

 I have a newly bought Nikon coolpix S5. almost 80% of the images are blurred with the vibration alert blinking all the time.  In relation to my other Nikon ,Canon Question....I have always shot with Nikon..n-90...f-2....but researching digital images online, Canon with the cmos sensor, were better at higher iso settings than Nikons!  I have found that film is too expensive. I am going to go digital. Right now, i have a Nikon FM10. I am basically learning on it. Film got on my bad side when i took at least 30 pictures of a wedding and found that the film didnt hook so the film was blank. NE WAYS< I am looking at the Nikon D40. How much could i get one for? new or used. Will it work with my bag of old nikon lenses? oh- i m serious about photography and hope to make a career but i hope to use the d40 as a full time use camera because of the lower price that the d50, d80, etc ...
