 when roland garros was shot down in wwI was the interruptor gear he was developing on his airplane fully functional? or was it still under development when wilhelm II had the werck sent to the fokker plant? read garros' personal papers and they seem to suggest a different scinerio than what my professor has stated in class. also the data im finding in secondary sources support both sides. i have some information that i have rooted out that contradicts what my professor has been teaching. i believe that it is correct, but i want to see what the concensus is in here then i will post it in the additional data section in this question. the seconday sources i have been able to find are roughly 50% claiming he did and 50% didnt have a functioning interrupter gear. will also post the professors assertion at that point too. my professor claimed that garros had a fully functioning interruptor gear on his plane when shot down. many texts claim this. manyh texts claim that he had just the deflectors on his props. from what i can find is that he had an interrupter gear on his plane as well as deflectors on his props. the timing had not been worked out totally when he was shot down. the interrupter gear fokker perfected was almost identicle to garros' with the timing proplem worked out. garros' interrupter gear did not work. ...
