I have recently bought a rocking-recliner. I hope this rocker will serve as a method of therapy for my legs while I sit in it (and rock.)
How / if effective is a rocking-seat (seperate from this recliner) to use with this rocking-recliner?
Is the therapeudic-effect on my legs any different from rocking with my feet on the floor vs. my feet being elevated?

I once attended a dinner gathering at a Jesus Army commune in the UK (called 'Cornerstone), and before eating, they sang a song to Jesus, but it turned into a kind of free-for-all crying-festival.
I cannot quite shake off the memory of all those people, rocking, hugging themselves, shouting 'Jesus, Jesus, Jesus!!" in a trance-like state.
Having worked with profoundly autistic adults for many years, I note the rocking and chanting is very similar. One young fellow used to rock back and forth and chant the name of his favourite band, so much so that he would cry and hug himself. He would listen to the same piece of music over and over again.
Does anyone concur that certain areas of the brain are affected by religious ritualism?
rico 3151: "Yes, but what is your point?"
I was under the impression that this was Yahoo answers..I was asking a question, not making a point. If you would like to answer the question* then that would of course be great!
*Maybe you know something more about which areas of the brain are affected and why?

Ever since I was a toddler, I have been "rocking"--literally. I will sit on the gound with my legs crossed and then rock back and forth, back and forth, sometimes for hours. When I rock, I do it to music; it makes me relaxed and helps settle my nerves. I find it extremeley hard to abstain from it for more than a couple days. Also, no one knows about it because I'm too embarassed to share it with people. I've kept it a secret for so long and I want to stop. Why do I do this and how do I overcome it? Please help!

I have four children: ages 10,8,2, and 14 mos. I rocked all of them to sleep at night and sometimes at naptime. I keep reading that you shouldn't rock them to sleep b/c then they don't learn to self-soothe, but I enjoy my time w/ them. Cuddling and rocking. I rock my 14 month old to bed every night & sometimes I still rock my 2 yr old. I am a SAHM, so I am the one who suffers the consequences if they want to be rocked not a daycare provider. What do you think???
