Everybody tells me that the Canon is the best. Canon Digital Cameras are known as the best all over the world. Canon Powershot is the best point-to-shoot digital camera. Canon EOS (also Nikon SLR) is the best professional Camera. But I'd like to know how the Canon made that everyone knows Canon and knows that Canon is the best one ! ! !

Can someone explain to me (in plain English, I'm a newbie), what exactly is the difference between these 2 lenses from Canon and why is #2 so much more expensive, is it that much better???
1) CANON EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM ( )
2) CANON EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM ( )
Thanks a lot.

I used a Canon 35 - 135 zoom a/f and a Promaster 75/300 a/f lens on my Canon 35mm 650 body for years.
After reading all the info I could about the Canon XTi which claims to be able to use all a/f lens from canon 35 a/f SLRs.
When I use my Canon lens every thing is OK. When I mount my Promaster I immediately get an "error 99" on the view screen and the camera locks up.
The promaster still works good on my Canon 650.
Did Canon program the body computer to reject non Canon lens?

I have a Canon EOS IX Slr camera, with 24 to 85mm lens it uses APS or Advantix films instead of conventional films, it was revolutionary at its time until the emergence of the DLSR, i bought it for sentimental reasons and its ease of use, i also have a Canon Speedlight 430ez flash.. here is my problem now im thinking of buying a DLSR im choosing either a Nikon D70 or Canon 350d or 400d, but im leaning towards a Canon, so i currently have 2 SLR a Nikon F80 with Tamron 24 to 200mm lens and Nikon SB-25 flash, and the Canon EOS IX with 24 to 80mm lens and Canon Speedlight 430ez, if i will buy a DLSR, one of my SLR will go, i will sell, which would i sell, one would be my backup SLR. OR shouldf i just keep it because its useful and it wouldnt be that large sum of money if i sell it. If i sell shall i sell the whole line or just the camera body, the lens or the flash. If i go DIGITAL would my existing flash be fully compatible or need to be sold and be replaced as well.. in a bdget

I am trying to purchase a DSLR camera for my wife this Christmas and have narrowed down the models to either the Sony Alpha 700 or the Canon 40D. From what I have read online so far, I've found 5 good points about the Sony vs only 2 good points about the Canon.
Sony's good point: (1) Accepts both MemoryStick and Compact Flash (2) 3" LCD has 922K pixels vs Canon's 230K (3) Image Stabilization is built into the body allowing the lens to be cheaper (4) 12.2Megapixel on Sony vs 10.1 on Canon (5) Sony uses a 11pt auto focus vs Canon's 9pt auto focus
Canon's good point: (1) High-speed continuous photos at 6.5 frames per second vs Sony's 5fps (2) Canon has "Live View" allowing photographer to take images via the LCD vs Sony does not.
Pricing issue aside, would someone with knowledge of either the Sony Alpha700 or the Canon 40D please provide feedback.
Thank you

I just got a new Canon camera and I was wondering if people who had Canon cameras bothered installing the Canon CD onto their computer (Apple), or whether they just used iphoto? Is there a benefit to using the Canon software or is iphoto better?

Which should I choose?
Canon s5 IS (8MP)
Canon A650 IS (12MP)
Canon SD850 IS (8MP)
Canon SD870 IS (8MP)
I heard that the s5 does a better job at movies than the others? Does anyone know if that's true? I want to take lots of movie clips of my family as well as outstanding pics.
I know the skill of the photographer has a lot to do with it - but given a choice, which of the above would be well suited for an avid photog (though not anywhere near pro!) maybe a "prosumer" :)
I know a Canon is the way to go - can someone better direct me as to which kind...
Thanks!

I'm gettting that camera this weekend..and if you have one will you tell me what you think about it? and can you use any lens with it bc i have a really long lens thats on my super old canon i think the that old canon is from like the 60s and then i have this other camera that i love the lens on but its not a canon its a MAXXUM XT si so i wanted to know can i use those lenses on the new canon rebel xti? and i want your input on the canon reble xti thanks =)

After a canon Xti has been bought about two weeks ago, the camera only takes some pictures before the message "replace battery" appears on the screen and the shutter button doesn't work. Could the batery be problem? Could it be the CF card (from a older canon powershot). Could it be both the problem?
After charging the battery completely, the camera works but as I said, only for a short time.

Okay so by old camera [ sony cybershot ] keeps breaking, like the button where you press down to take a picture always. always, always pops off and the spring does too and the company gave us a new camera, but the new one just did the same exact thing. I want a canon camera now, like a canon powershot and I just want to know what you'd recomomend ?
My friend has a canon S3 IS and I like that, but she did say that it is heavy and gets annoyoing, so I want a lightweight.
I love taking pictures, espically of horses, animals, nature, etc.
So recomendations would be great
I'm pretty much looks for a lightweight sleek powershot canon that still has good quality.

my friend (female) believes that 1st off a canon if shot at a person will only break the leg, I told her it would rip you in half... who's right??? :)
Also she said that a canon coudn't penetrate an Elephants skin, it coudn't kill and Elephant. Primarily because the canon ball is blunt and large.
I told her it would most definetly kill and elephant if you shot one with a canon
why.. the canon ball weights ?? 20 lbs and is traveling about 1000 mph and that would equate to something like a million joules of energy on impact...
any way she is stubbon but then again I am too....
so who do you guys side with, me or her

I believe the original installation of this printer FAX scanner copier somehow caused the Canon software to become shareware as an integral part of another program. If I delete the Canon MultiPASS exe file, I'm sure it will delete or corrupt a program. The warning on each start-up says there is a task (I can't find the shareware task) running that would be corrupted or deleted if I delete the file C:/Program Files\Canon\MultiPASS\MPTBox.exe. I use Windows 2000 & can't affort to upgrade to XP right now. How can I stop this half-screen warning from appearing on my desktop everytime I start up my PC? The Canon program takes up a lot of space too. Please help if you know how. Thank you.

Hello again,
Well I have been asking quite a few camera questions lately and I'm still on the looking side.. I have chosen to purchase the Canon EOS Rebel Xti (black) and am looking into buying a lens or lenses. Although I dont have much I would save up to have a good lens.
Two lenses that have been brought to my attention are the Canon 70-300 F4-5.6 IS USM and the Canon 70-200 F4 L IS USM. I really like both of these lenses. I just dont know which one is really worth it. I really like the extra 100mm and the fact that the 5.6 is black and would look nice on the camera I"m purchasing were as the L might not look as great. But I like that the "L" is in the L series and I have heard about a lot of great stuff about it.
I will mostly be photographing wildlife (horse will be the main subject) I would also like to do pet/people portraits. I may also do other misc things but those are the main two.
So with that I would like to hear your guys opinions on both lenses. Thanks alot.

With the Canon Rebel XTI and the Canon Powershot S5, why would someone choose the XTI over the S5? ISO? Speed? Other?
I have read and reread tons of reviews. I would love to know if anyone has first hand experience with the two Canons and any related insight you can offer.
A salesperson recently told me that I should definitely choose the Powershot over the XTI. I had my sights set on a XTI, but now I'm questioning that.
Thanks.

I apologize guys, I had an earlier question about this, but I just relised today that for the 70-200 I was asking to compare it with its IS, I can only afford the one without it for around $550. So with that if lam able to get different answer it will be appreciated.

Currently I own a Canon PowerShot S3, and I am looking to upgrade within the next year or so. I'm looking at DSLR's. I really love my Canon, it's a great little camera, but I want to get a more "professional" one, now that my skills have improved. And I'm stuck between Canon and Nikon. The Canon Rebel XTi seems great, but so does the Nikon D40 and D50.
I'm an advanced beginner. I mainly take nature, (landscapes, sunsets, wildlife, etc), sports, portraits, and macro pictures. So I need a camera with a wide range of capabilities.
So, what camera would best suit my needs?
And does anyone know when the next Rebel is coming out?
Thanks in advance!

I'm starting to take photography as a real hobby, spending many weekends out there shooting, and I feel it's time to change my shooting gear from a canon A520 point & shoot (which surprisingly accepts a lot of manual settings) and my old canon AE-1 (with a tamron 70-280 lens, and the trusty old 50mm prime) to a dSLR. Now I have done quite a lot of research about Nikon and Canon dSLR cameras (Nikon D50 and Canon 350D in particular), and I know both are very good bodies with not-the-greatest kit lenses. And I know that it all comes to lenses when photo quality is considered, and that both manufacturers have excelent lenses. I also know that I'll stick with the brand I choose now for the next couple of years.
Question: How do Nikon and Canon lens offerings compare together in terms of pricing and quality? To be more specific, if you take two very similar lenses (both in terms of numbers AND optics quality) from each manufacturer, which one would be cheaper? Would this be a general rule?
