 AFAIK, there are two ways to calculate drag. There's viscous resistance, where the drag force is opposite and proportional to the velocity, Fd = -bv, where b is the constant of proportionality. Then there's the normal drag equation, Fd = (1/2)?(v^2)(Cd)A Now, as far I as can see, given a particular object and particular medium, all of those terms are constant except velocity. Then we can reduce it to a second constant of proportionality, where the drag is *exponentially* proportional to the velocity. The constant of proportionality this time around is (1/2)?(Cd)A. Isn't this contradictory? One equation says drag is proportional to velocity, while the other says it is exponentially proportional. Usually, when there are two equations for something like drag, the simpler one is Newtonian and works at low velocities, while the complicated one is always correct. Is this true? I find it dubious that drag increases exponentially with velocity, for some reason. ...

 Im asked to calculate the drag profile of an aircraft(the coefficient of induced drag and profile drag) Here are the values: CL=0.629 CD=0.0916 aspect ratio=11.08 Both the CL and CD look fine, i used Cdi=K(CL)^2, where k=(1/pi e AR) so i got k=0.01057 so Cdi= 0.00418 which means CD0=0.0874 And here's where the problem occur, the Cdi and Cd0 are so different. Can anyone tell me what is the mistake? Thanks Sorry, I thought the e was 2.7........ now it make more sense but now the Cdi=0.120, and Cd0=0.796 Since they are so different, does it means that this speed is higher than the minimum drag speed where Cdi=Cd0?
