English or Bahasa question does not matter as long ask properly and people understand. what do malaysian think?? i dont mind if they use english or malay word, at less is not too broken and understand by many people. 2 choices of language to use, if you dont know one you must know the other otherwise people here dont understand you?? i dont mind if they use english or malay word, at less is not too broken and understand by many people. 2 choices of language to use, if you dont know one you must know the other otherwise people here dont understand you??  "The term Malay can refer to the ethnic group who live in the Malay peninsula (which include the southernmost part of Thailand call Patani and Satun) and east Sumatra as well as the cultural sphere that encompass a large part of the archipelago. The Malay ethnic group is the majority in Malaysia and Brunei and a sizable minority in Singapore and Indonesia." concept of a Malay race was proposed by the German scientist Johann Friedrich Blumenbach (1752-1840)... Blumenbach expanded the term "Malay" to include the inhabitants of the Marianas, the Philippines, the Malukus, Sundas, as well as Pacific Islands such as Tahitians." question is: Are the Javanese, Achehnese, and most other Indonesians considered Malay? What about the people of Irian Jaya? The Filipinos? Tahitians? Fijians? Is that definition still in use? ...

Ok, just some background: the Malay dictionary that we are supposed to use for class has only an "English-Malay" side, not a "Malay-English" side, ie we can only translate one way. How then would I say, in formal Malay, "Why are we forced to use a dictionary that only has a English-Malay side, and not the other way around?" Thanks! ...

Recently there has been quite a debate from Malaysia ruling party that Malay from Singapore being marginalised and did not progress or protected like what the Malay in Malaysia does ie special right /discounts/quotos to Malay or bumi only. This issue started when your MM Lee mentioned that Chinese Malaysian are being marginalised. I as a Chinese agreed what MM Lee said, what about you on the Malay Singapore from our government? Does Malay Singaporean feel you are capable enough to compete with the rest without clutches like your fellow Malay in Malaysia? Shamalay, respect your honesty and your view. Good to hear you address yourself as Singaporean instead of Singapore Malay. I agreed on the point that your government is bringing in more Chinese to even out as I heard from others Singaporean that chinese there dont have baby more than two or even less. However, do you agree if I said ur government do have a fair system for all singaporeans from medical to education, housing and CPF and to keep up with the international competition to bring create enough jobs for the citizens. But to get into any work force will be on own capabilities rite? Oh yes, I think I left that part out too, would Malay Singaporean interested to come over and have a change of environment instead? Jules, u r rite on the PR part unless u r a muslims or indonesian muslim or married a malaysian muslim. Period. Give u another classic example, a french married to a chinese lady and open a travel agent in KL for more than 10 years, PR application rejected for the 4th time the last I met him but his french friend married a malay , got a PR in 6 yrs! ...

I am a Malaysian chinese and i well heard of certain chinese are racist towards malay due to political and religion issues. some of them like to generalize all malay are bad just because the government (majority malay) mistreating them. and i also heard of people saying these chinese when travelling abroad (to japan, korea etc), they spread rumour and talking bad about malaysian Malay. As one of my foreign friend told me, he said certain chinese just like to generalize malay as lazy, uncivilized. If these malay are so lazy, then how could them able and eligible to study overseas? I can say that these group of chinese have great prejudice towards malay. they are not open-minded. i have alot of malay friends, and most of them have their own business, without relying from government. They are very independant and open mind. As i can see many of the malay are competitive too. For example, malay in Kelantan, Malaysia. They work hard and emphasize on education too. That is why Kelantan is having the 2nd lowest federal debt. Since Kelantan practices Islam, therefore there is no bribe. All the sales and yields of kelantan state donated to its citizen welfare. And by that way malay could gain wealth more easily. Certain chinese look down on malay just because they think they are the only race who working hard and strike for life. Unfortunately they are wrong. They have to accept the fact that other races in thsi world also working hard and even harder than they are. ...

What types of girls Malay men like, I know some that are in love with chinese, but because of their background know they can only have malay. Would a malay guy ever be in mix race marriage. ...

Malay grammar: "ni"? What is the meaning and function of the Malay word "ni"? e.g. in this quote: "Sebab itulah awak ni masih lagi bujang." (also why the "lagi"?) I'm assuming that "ni" is a contraction of another word, or is at least a colloquial form. If anyone could help me out with explanations and examples, that would be great. Also, in the above quote, I guessed that "sebab itulah" means "that's the reason." Is the phrase "itulah mengapa" also appropriate here? Ok! Thanks! ...

hi i am looking for a happy birthday card to send a friend, i have been trying to find a site that has free happy birthday ecards in malay. Happy birthday in malay is slemat hari jardi i think if anyone can help that would be great/ ...

So, I understand that "sebab" can mean "because", but apparently it can also mean "reason." To me, these two seem rather contradictory. So if anyone could please: 1. explain the usage of this word 2. provide examples, or perhaps translate these using sebab: "He is respected because he is kind." "That is because he arrived first." "That is why he wanted to help." or something similar. Ok! Thank you very much. I have been asking a lot of Malay questions lately, I hope I'm not bothering the Malay-speaking people on Y!A.... :S ...
